It’s a great excuse to act silly and zany and just be ridiculous, which my toddler loves! Egg shaker songs and activities are such a great way to connect with your child. Young children love these simple rhythm instruments because they make a fun sound, they are easy to use, and they are just the right size for little hands! Shaker egg songs and activities are an easy way to help your little one get her wiggles out and for your and your child to engage in joyful play that invites lots of laughter and fun. In this blog post, I will share with you some of my favorite egg shaker songs and activities. These egg shaker activities are great to use one-on-one with your child, and they also work well for small groups and preschool classes. They could even be used in music classes for primary students. Where to Find Egg Shakers for Egg Shaker Songs and Activities
Egg shakers are pretty easy to find. You can buy them on Amazon or at Oriental Trading Company, or you can simply make your own! Shaker eggs are easy to make with plastic eggs. Just fill a plastic Easter egg of any size with a few beans or a little bit of rice, and glue the egg shut. You can use craft glue for this, but hot glue will be more sturdy. Just make sure the glue is not too hot when you apply it, or it will melt the plastic egg. You will need to apply the glue and close the egg quickly before the glue starts to harden at all. Once the glue is dry, you have your very own egg shaker!

Egg Shaker Songs
The following are our favorite songs for dancing and singing with egg shakers. These songs can all be found on Spotify.
I Know a Chicken by The Laurie Berkner Band
This is the best egg shaker activity song! It is meant for shaker eggs and it has actions for the egg shakers built right in! The song tells you to shake your eggs to the left, to the right, shake them slow, shake them fast, shake them in a circle, etc.. I love The Laurie Berkner Band in general, and this song is fun, energetic, pleasant to listen to, and not annoying.
Shake Freeze by Little Maestros
This is a really high energy song with a steady beat that is easy to follow with the shaker eggs. It has some built in actions and a freeze dance element, which makes it a fun song for egg shakers.
Shake Ya Shaker by Kath Bee
This song is more calm and low-key then some of the others. It has lots of motions in addition to shaking the egg shakers so it’s great for following directions and learning body parts. This is a really pleasant song to listen to. I love this lady’s accent! This is a good choice if you want your child to calm down rather than rev up.
The Shaking Song by Judi Cranston
This is a fun choice if you have lots of different musical instruments for your little one to play with. In addition to shakers, this song mentions bells, castanets, and a drum. If you have all of those instruments on hand, this is a fun song for young children to make music with!
Shaking Your Maracas by Julie Wylie
This is also a little bit more of a calm song for egg shakers. It is full of actions to do with the shaker eggs – shake them up high, shake them down low, shake them in the middle, behind, etc..
Shake it Up by Katherine Dines
This is a pleasant song with lots of instructions for how to shake your shaker eggs – shake them high, shake them low, etc..
Shake Shake (Minuet in G) by Mr. Eric & Mr. Michael
This one is set to classical music, so it’s great exposure! It’s also a good song for learning body parts.
Egg Shaker Song by Mister Q
This is a fun and high-energy shaker egg song.
I Can Shake My Shaker Egg by Mr. Eric & Mr. Michael
This is a higher energy egg shaker song. It has a nice steady beat to shake the eggs to that picks up the pace until kids are frantically shaking their egg shakers. This is a good choice if you want the kids to get a little crazy!
Milkshake Song by Old Town School of Folk Music
This is a cute one! The song instructs the little ones to make a milkshake by pouring milk and shaking it up. This egg shaker song is pleasant and upbeat but not crazy, and unique.
Jingle Bells
This classic song is perfect for egg shakers! You can even make some egg shakers with jingle bells inside to use for this song. Christmas time is the perfect time for egg shaker songs!

Egg Shaker Activities
Egg Shaker Hide and Go Seek
This egg shaker activity will delight your little one! It’s an excellent game to play with your toddler, and a great activity for older children too. This can be played in a group or be used as a one on one activity for you and your child.
You play it like regular hide and seek, except when you hide, you shake the shaker egg. Your child follows the sound to find you. This is a great way to play with a little one who might not be ready for regular hide and go seek yet.
There is a variation of this game that you can play with children who are a bit older. Blindfold the seeker so they have to follow the sound of the egg shaker in order to find the other players. Make sure to do this safely though! You want to make sure to do it in a big open space where there aren’t any tripping hazards or sharp corners to bump into. The players will be “hiding” in plain sight so that the seeker doesn’t risk bumping into furniture or walls. You want to have an adult supervising this game to make sure the blindfolded seeker stays safe.
Shaker Eggs Dance
One of the simplest egg shaker activities that you can do is Shaker Eggs Dance. All you have to do is turn on one of the egg shaker songs and move to it! Most of the egg shaker songs listed in this blog post have built in directions for how to move with the egg shakers while you dance. This is your chance to be silly and animated and have a blast with your little one.
Do as I’m Doing
This is like Shaker Eggs Dance, but in this version, you and your child will mirror one another. Take turns doing actions with the shaker eggs while dancing to an egg shaker song and copy each other. This is a super fun shaker egg activity to do with a small group of children. Each child can have a partner to copy, or there can be one leader for the group.
Shaker Eggs Story Time
For this egg shaker activity, children use egg shakers to make sound effects for a story. Any story that includes rain or wind works great. Children can also use the egg shakers along with simple nursery rhymes such as Baa Baa Black Sheep and The Itsy Bitsy Spider. The “down came the rain” part of the Itsy Bitsy Spider is particularly good for shaker eggs.
I hope you enjoyed these egg shaker songs and activities! I hope they bring you and your child some joyful connection. Thank you for visiting! Please stop by again sometime soon!
