If you like toilet paper roll crafts and you are looking for fun crafts for Valentine’s Day, I have the perfect Valentines Day craft for you! This easy Valentine’s Day craft is a lot of fun to do with your kids, and is a great way to upcycle toilet paper rolls! It only requires a few craft materials that you probably already have around the house, so it’s a super economical Valentine’s Day craft as well. The craft is simple to do, but you can easily add your own personal touch which makes it a fun way for kids of all ages to get crafty. I’ll show you how you can dress up the finished product to make a sweet Valentine treat that your child can give as a Valentine. So go rescue some empty toilet paper rolls from the recycling bin and let’s get started!
Materials You will Need for the Heart Animal Toilet Paper Roll Crafts for Valentine’s Day
- Cardboard tubes – you will need one toilet paper tube for each animal that you want to make. You can use a paper towel roll to make two or three animals if you have some empty rolls laying around.
- Toilet Paper Roll Valentine Animals template – you can find that below.
- Scissors
- Paint – acrylic craft paint works well for this. You can choose whatever colors you prefer. I used brown for the dog and bear, black for the cat, white for the bunny, and gray for the mouse. I also used pink for the insides of the ears, and pink and red for the hearts.
- Paint brush – a good sized flat brush works well for painting the toilet rolls. You’ll need a smaller brush as well for the details.
- Googly eyes – these are optional, but a fun way to make the eyes!
- Pom poms – these are for the face – they are also optional
- Glitter – optional, but lots of fun! This is for making the heart shape glittery. The dollar store usually carries some really inexpensive glitter in all kinds of colors.
- White glue
- Glue dots or hot glue gun – this is optional. You would use these for the pom poms. You can use the white glue instead, but they will probably stick on better with glue dots or hot glue. The hot glue gun should only be used by older children or adults, of course. Glue dots are great because younger kids can use them safely.
Instructions for Making Your Heart Animal Toilet Paper Roll Crafts for Valentine’s Day
- Print out the Toilet Paper Roll Valentine Animals template. You will find the free PDF file below.
- Cut out the pattern or patterns you would like to use.
- Take your cardboard roll and gently press it to fold it in half. You want to try not to crease it if you can. If you do, don’t worry – it will be fine!
- Place the animal pattern on the toilet paper tube, lining up the flat bottom of the pattern with the end of the toilet paper roll.

- Trace around the pattern.
- Cut out the animal shape. Older kids can probably do this on their own, but younger children will definitely need help with this step.

- The next step is to paint your toilet paper animal. You need to paint both the front and back of the animal.

- When the animal is painted, let it dry for a little bit until the paint is dry to the touch.
- Now you can paint the heart. You only need to paint the front of the heart. Don’t worry about the backside.

- Let the heart dry.
- While the heart is drying, you can use a little bit of paint to finish of the inside of the ears of the mouse, bunny, and cat.
- Once everything is dry, you can apply the glitter if you would like glitter on the heart. To do this step, paint the heart with a light coat of glue. Sprinkle glitter on the glue and shake off the excess.

- Now it’s time to make the face! You can paint the face on if you would like, or you can use googly eyes for eyes and pom poms for the nose. My kids voted for paint for the eyes, so that’s what we did. We dipped the end of a paintbrush in paint and pressed it onto the face to make the eyes. We attached medium pom poms for the noses.

- You can give the bunny a pom pom tail if you would like to add a special finishing touch!
- Feel free to use your own fun ideas to personalize your Valentine’s craft. Make it yours!
Look at these little guys! Didn’t they turn out cute?

Once your toilet paper roll crafts are all done, you can put a treat inside to make a special Valentine! To do this, cut a piece of cellophane or plastic wrap to about 7 inches by 7 inches. Tuck it inside of the toilet paper roll, allowing the tissue to come up about 1-2 inches above the top of the heart.
Fill the plastic wrap with small heart candies, or chocolate, or stickers, or other fun things.

Gather the top of the tissue paper and tie it with a ribbon.
You can also tape a fun size candy bar or other little bag of candy to the inside of your craft.

Now you toilet paper roll Valentine animal is ready to deliver a special Valentine!
