If you are looking for hedgehog craft ideas look no further! I have a darling hedgehog paper craft for you that kids of all ages will love. These paper hedgehogs are simple and easy to make and they are appropriate for all skill levels. My three year-old had lots of fun making this and was able to do it almost completely independently, so it’s a perfect preschool hedgehog craft. It only requires a few simple materials, so it is a great budget craft as well! Read on for the easy instructions and free printable template for these cute little hedgehogs!
Materials for the Tissue Paper Hedgehog Craft
You only need a few simple materials for this fun craft:
- Printable hedgehog template (you can find the free hedgehog craft template PDF below)
- Card stock or construction paper in whatever color you prefer – card stock is kind of nice because you can print the paper hedgehog craft template right onto it. We used a natural tan card stock for our hedgehog’s body.
- Tissue paper – you can use whatever color you would like. We used brown tissue paper, which you can find at Target and Amazon. I was not able to find brown tissue paper at Walmart or the dollar store in our area, but the one in your town might have some! You might be able to find some at your local craft store as well, although ours did not have any brown tissue paper. You will need about one half of a sheet of tissue paper per hedgehog.
- Glue – you can use a glue stick, but I think white glue or a tacky craft glue will work better for this preschool hedgehog craft.
- Scissors – any kind will do!
- Pom pom – this is for the nose. It’s optional, but it sure is a cute way to make the hedgehog’s nose!
- Googly eyes – these are optional (and we didn’t use them for our hedgehog) but if your child likes googly eyes they add a fun touch!
- Marker – to make the eye if you are not using googly eyes
Instructions for Making Your Tissue Paper Hedgehog Craft
Making this cute hedgehog craft is so much fun and it’s a great opportunity for your little one to practice their fine motor skills! It’s also a wonderful way to spend some quality time connecting with your child. Follow these easy instructions to make your adorable hedgehog craft!
- Print the hedgehog craft template (find the free PDF below). You can print it directly onto the card stock color of your choice, or you can print it on regular printer paper and trace it onto construction paper.
- Cut out the hedgehog. Older kids will be able to do this on their own, but you might want to do the cutting in advance if you are using this as a preschool hedgehog craft.

- Cut the tissue paper into pieces around 1-2 inches long. I cut a long strip and then cut that into smaller pieces.

- Apply glue to the hedgehog’s body, making sure to leave the hedgehog’s face and legs bare. When I did this with my three year-old, I found that it was best to apply the glue to one small area at a time, let him put the tissue paper on that area, then glue another area.

- Scrunch up the pieces of tissue paper to make the prickly spines of the hedgehog. Press them onto the glue on the hedgehog’s body.

- Look at those fine motor skills at work! I love watching little fingers do these kinds of paper crafts. It’s so cute!

- When your hedgehog’s body is all covered with tissue paper, it is time to add a face!

- Put some glue on the tip of the hedgehog’s nose. Press the pom pom onto the dot of glue.
- Now add a googly eye or a draw an eye with a marker. We drew an eye on with a marker.
Look at that adorable hedgehog! Isn’t he cute?!
