These Three Little Pigs felt finger puppets are a great prop to have in your homeschool or classroom! They just beg to be used for narration, which is a great way to get young children to practice the mental work that is foundational for writing. When your kids are having fun retelling the story of the Three Little Pigs, they will never know that they are also working on their English language arts assignment! Learning and telling the classic story of the Three Little Pigs can also count as social studies – so you and your children or students get a two for one with these felt finger puppets! These little puppets are quick and easy to make and super inexpensive – you probably have the materials to make them already at your house! This great craft project can be completed in an hour, and is easy enough that a crafty kid can make their own finger puppets independently or with just a little bit of help. In this post I will give you the free felt finger puppets patterns and a step-by-step tutorial on how to make adorable finger puppets that will delight your child or your classroom!
You Will Need the Following Materials and Tools:
- the free felt finger puppets patterns – find the printable pattern at the bottom of this post
- a variety of colors of felt – you don’t need much of any of the colors – regular sized felt pieces that you get at the craft store are more than enough, and scraps will probably be sufficient if you have some already. I used pink for the pigs, gray for the Big Bad Wolf, and white for the wolf’s teeth – feel free to substitute any of these with a different color if you would like!
- small pom pom for the Big Bad Wolf’s nose
- embroidery floss or fabric paint (like Puffy Paint or Scribbles) – you will probably want black thread if you choose to go the embroidery thread route
- a sewing machine (optional) – you can also use a needle and thread to stitch the puppets by hand, or use fabric glue or hot glue to glue them together
- hot glue gun and hot glue
- googly eyes (optional)
- scissors
How to Make the Three Little Pigs Finger Puppets
- print out the free patterns (find the felt finger puppets patterns at the bottom of the post)
- gather all the different materials
- cut the pattern out of the felt – You will have six body pieces for the pigs, six ears for the pigs, three noses for the pigs, two body pieces for the Big Bad Wolf, two ears for the Big Bad Wolf, two inner ears and a muzzle for the Big Bad Wolf, and one set of teeth.

- to assemble the three little pigs puppets, first make the body shape by sewing the two puppet body pieces together. You can sew them with a sewing machine by sewing a scant quarter inch around the top and sides, leaving the bottom of the puppet open for a finger. If you prefer to hand-sew the puppets, you can use a blanket stitch or whip stitch around the edges of the puppets, or you can backstitch close to the edge. You can use regular thread or embroidery thread to do the hand-sewing, whichever you prefer. Or if you prefer not to sew at all, you can use fabric glue or hot glue to attach the back of the body to the front. Just place the glue on the very edge of the body pieces. Note: if you choose to use glue, hot glue will probably hold better.

- Once you have sewn the body shape, you can add the ears and the noses of the pigs. You can hand sew these on if you would like, or use hot glue to attach them. I used hot glue because it is faster and easier to glue these small pieces, but sewing them on might give a more professional look. Whichever you prefer is fine!

- Now your pig puppets are almost done, just time to add a face!
- I used Puffy Paint to add eyes and nostrils to my pig puppets, but you can also use embroidery thread to tie French knots for the eyes, or glue on googly eyes (although I have to warn you – they do tend to fall off after a while). A black permanent marker or paint pen would also work for adding the nostrils.

Now your three little pigs puppets are complete!
Time to make the Big Bad Wolf finger puppet!
- The first step in making the wolf is to attach the inner ears to the inside of the wolf’s ears. Once the inner ears are attached to the outer ears, you can tack the ears to the back of the wolf’s body with a little glue or a couple of stiches.
Next, sew the back and front of the puppet body together, with the ears sandwiched in between. You can do this with a sewing machine, sewing around the sides and top of the body at a scant quarter inch and leaving the bottom open for a finger, or you can hand stitch the body together with a whip stitch, blanket stitch, or back stitch. You can use regular thread for this or you can use embroidery thread. Make sure to catch the ears in your stitching so they will stay attached. If you prefer, you can use fabric glue or hot glue to glue the body pieces together by gluing around the edges.
- The next step is to attach the teeth to the muzzle of the Big Bad Wolf. I recommend hot glue for this. Glue the teeth to the back of the muzzle so that just the pointy parts of the teeth are visible from the front. Now glue the nose and teeth onto the front of the Big Bad Wolf body. Refer to the photos to help you with placement.

- Now that the muzzle and teeth are attached, hot glue a pom pom nose to the top of the muzzle.
- And finally, give the Big Bad Wolf some eyes. You can do this with fabric paint, like Puffy Paint (which is what I did), or you can sew the eyes on with a French knot, or add googly eyes, whatever you would like!
