Materials You Will Need for the Father’s Day Handprint Art

  • You only need a few simple materials to make your Father’s Day handprint art. You may have all the materials already at home, but if not they are easy to find at craft stores. You will need:
  • Daddy I Love You printable – you can find the digital files in different colors at the end of the post.
  • Heart cut outs – you can find the digital download at the end of the post.
  • Printer and paper – I prefer card stock for this craft because it takes paint well and it’s a little more sturdy, but regular paper also works.
  • Scissors – for cutting out the hearts
  • Paint – acrylic paint works well. You can also use washable paint or finger paint.
  • Paint brush – wide flat paint brushes work best.
  • Paper plate or bowl – for pouring out the paint.
  • Paper towels – for wiping hands and clean up
  • Smock – optional, but always a good idea when mixing paint and young kids

Instructions for the Father’s Day Handprint Art

  • Print out the Daddy I Love You printable. You can find the free printables in different colors at the end of the post.
  • Print the heart cut outs. The template is also at the end of the post.
  • Cut out one heart for each handprint that will be made.
  • Place the Daddy I Love You printable and a heart cutout in front of your child.
  • Paint your child’s hand. You want a good coat of paint that covers all parts of your child’s hand, but not so much that the paint has globs.
  • Quickly place a cutout heart in the middle of your child’s palm. This will create a little heart in the middle of your child’s handprint. Such a fun way to add a special touch to your Father’s Day handprint art!

  • Have her press her hand firmly in place.
  • Help your child lift his hand carefully from the paper.
  • Look at that cute little handprint! So sweet!
