Mommy I Love You Mother’s Day Craft for Preschoolers

Adorable Mother’s Day craft for preschoolers

I’m pretty excited to share this craft with you today. It is a quick, easy and adorable Mother’s Day craft for kids. And the best part is that it preserves a child’s handprint in a sweet gift that mom can keep forever! This easy Mother’s day craft for kids makes a great gift or a lovely Mother’s Day card. I suggest putting it in a frame – it’s a perfect way to make an extra special gift that a Mom of younger children will treasure. This handprint art makes a wonderful Mother’s Day craft for preschoolers, and it works well as a Mother’s Day craft for toddlers and babies too! I think it would look so sweet with a little baby hand! In this post I will give you the free printable template as well as the simple instructions for this darling Mother’s Day craft for preschoolers!

Supplies to Make Mommy I Love You Mother’s Day Craft for Preschoolers

  • Mommy I Love You printable (you can find it in various colors at the end of the post. If you would like a different color than the ones I have included, let me know in the comments and I’d be happy to add the color of your choice!)
  • 8×10 Matte photo paper, card stock, or regular paper for printing the template
  • Paint – acrylic paint works well. You may want to use a washable paint if you are doing this Mother’s Day craft with a group of toddlers or preschoolers.
  • Wide paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Smocks – optional, but always a great idea when using paint with younger kids!
  • Paper plates or bowls – for holding the paint
  • Paper towels – optional but recommended to help with cleaning hands

Instructions for Making the Mommy I Love You Mother’s Day Craft for Kids

  • Print one Mommy I Love You free printable template (at the bottom of the post) for each child who will be making the Mother’s Day craft. There are several colors to choose from.
  • Cut out a paper heart for each child who will make the craft. You want to make sure you have this ready before painting any hands!
  • Pour the paint onto a bowl or plate. You will need a generous quarter-sized amount of paint for each child.
  • Position the Mommy I Love You template in front of the child.
  • Quickly paint the child’s hand, giving it a good coat. You want enough paint that it doesn’t dry too quickly, but you don’t want globs.
  • Place the little heart in the middle of the child’s hand, covering the paint in that spot. This is going to make a heart shape in the child’s handprint. It’s a great way to add a special touch to this sweet Mother’s Day gift!

  • Help the child press her hand onto the template so that the middle of her palm is where the O in LOVE would be.
  • Make sure all his little fingers and his palm get pressed down firmly so that paint transfers well. You can give a little help by pressing his hand down gently. Lift up his hand.
  • Look at that little hand! So cute!

  • Allow the paint to dry.
  • Now you can finish off this simple craft by adding a special message from the child to make it into an adorable Mother’s Day card, or by putting it in an 8×10 frame. This Mother’s Day craft for preschoolers makes the cutest keepsake that Mom will love receiving on her special day!
