This is a super easy and super fun way to learn the sound of ALL!
All you need is:
- a large ball that is easy to catch – I found mine at Walmart
- a dry erase marker
Instructions:
- Write ALL words on the ball with the dry erase marker. NOTE – if it matters to you that the words come off the ball when you are done, test it first! I was able to get the marker off with soap and water, but not with just a dry cloth.
- Here’s a list of ALL words for your ball: all, fall, call, wall, hall, stall, tall, mall small, stall
- Teach your child the sound of all (the sound in ball – the a makes a short o sound)
- Practice reading ALL words! Toss the ball back and forth, and every time your child catches it, have him read one of the words.
- If your child is ready for it, you can also give this activity a twist by adding in some spelling practice (it’s reading in reverse!). Have your child throw you the ball. When you catch the ball, give your child one of the words on the ball and ask her to try and spell it. This helps solidify the connection between the letter combination and the sound, and it keeps things interesting!
This activity can also be used to practice other kinds of words and sounds for a fun and easy way to practice phonics.
