Storytime Crafts: Ghosts in the House – Make a Mini Ghost!

Ghosts in the House by Kazuno Kohara is one of my all-time favorite books for Halloween. The story and illustrations are simply adorable and sweet as can be. This cute mini ghost craft goes right along with the adorableness of the story, and it’s pretty quick and simple too!

Materials Needed:

  • one peg doll or old fashioned clothespin per ghost
  • one 8×8 piece of muslin or white fabric per ghost
  • one half of a pipe cleaner (also called a chenille stem) per ghost
  • 1 tbsp white glue per ghost
  • 1 tbsp water per ghost
  • paper bowl
  • plastic spoon
  • small square sticky back black felt, black marker, or black paint for the ghost face
  • mini ghost pattern (below)

Instructions:

  • print the mini ghost pattern and cut it out of the white fabric
  • cut a pipe cleaner in half and twist the pipe cleaner around the “neck” of the peg doll or clothespin to make arms for the ghost
  • mix the glue and water
  • dip the fabric circle in the glue and make sure all parts of the fabric are saturated; squeeze out any excess
  • drape the wet fabric circle over the peg doll and sculpt it to create the shape of your ghost
  • let the ghost dry until it is stiff – about 8 hours
  • remove the peg doll and add the face and any embellishments you want

Now you have a cute mini ghost to go with the story Ghosts in the House! Thank you for visiting! I hope you enjoyed this Storytime Craft!
