This is one of those crafts that really gives you a lot of bang for your buck! My little guy had such a blast painting Easter eggs with these DIY stamps – he kept wanting to do another and another. He was happily occupied for about an hour – which is a really long time when you are three! What makes this fun Easter craft for kids even better is that it’s really simple to prepare and uses recycled materials that you probably have around your house, so it’s a very budget friendly craft too. In this post, I will show you how to do this simple Easter craft for kids and give you the free printables that you need in order to make it. Let’s get started!
List of Materials for Egg Stamping
You will need just a few materials for this fun Easter craft for kids:
- Toilet Paper Rolls – these are for rolling a long pattern across the egg
- A plastic straw – this is for rolling the toilet paper roll
- White paper – this can be printer paper, card stock, or construction paper – whatever you prefer.
- Bottle tops – any bottle tops will work, but you will probably want tops that are at least an inch in diameter. These will be the bases for the stamps, so you will need one for each stamp that you would like to make. I used tops from gallon sized water bottles, a supplement bottle, and a bottle of almond milk.
- Sticky back foam – one sheet will be enough – there’s room on one sheet to make a ton of stamps. You can find sticky back foam in craft stores and at Walmart. I got a sheet at Hobby Lobby for 99 cents, so it’s nice and cheap!
- Paint – I would recommend washable tempera paint just so you don’t risk staining clothes, but you can also use acrylic craft paint – whatever works!
- Paper plates or paint tray for spreading paint.
- Paint brushes
- Paper towels for containing messes
- A smock – optional, but highly recommended!
- Scissors – for cutting out the patterns, the foam, and the paper eggs.
- Easter egg template (you can find it below)
- Stamp patterns printable ( you can find it below)
- Pencil – for tracing the patterns
Instructions for Egg Stamping Easter Craft for Kids
- Gather all the materials.
- Print out the egg template. You can print one and use it as a pattern to trace onto construction paper, or you can print out as many eggs as your kids would like to make and stamp directly on the template to make your Easter eggs.
- Prepare the stamps. To make stamp rollers, cut out the zig zag or wavy pattern and trace it onto the back of the sticky back foam. Cut out the waves or zigzags, remove the backing, and wrap them around a toilet paper roll. Trim the foam so the waves or zigzags join together in a continuous round.

- You can put two rows of zigzags or waves on one toilet paper roll if you would like.

- To prepare the other stamps, cut out the shapes and trace them onto the back of the sticky back foam.

- Cut out the foam shapes. Remove the backing and stick each shape onto a bottle top.

- Squirt some paint onto a paper plate and get ready to stamp the Easter eggs!
- For the roller stamps, the easiest thing to do is coat the zigzags or waves with paint using a brush. Get a nice thick layer of paint onto the foam, otherwise it will not transfer well.
- Slip a straw through the toilet paper roll and place the roll on the edge of the paper. Have your child hold onto the straw and move it across the egg, rolling the toilet paper roll across the egg with it.

- For the stamps, you can simply dip the shapes into the paint, making sure they get coated well, and stamp them onto the egg.

- When your child has stamped the egg as much as they want, set the egg aside to try.
- If you would like to reuse the stamps that you made for another craft, you can absolutely do so. Just wipe off any extra paint. Don’t worry about getting the stamp completely clean – it will still work fine even if there is some residue.
- Once the egg is all dry, you can let your child cut it out, if they are old enough to use scissors. It’s a great opportunity to practice the fine motor skills!
That’s it! Your Easter egg is all done!
