Easy Jumping Jack Witch Halloween Paper Craft for Kids!

If you are looking for fun Halloween crafts for an upcoming Halloween party I have just the thing for you! This cute Halloween paper craft is so much fun for kids of all ages. And because it is a jumping jack that moves, it keeps being fun even after the kids are done putting it together! I love paper crafts for kids because they only require a handful of inexpensive materials, they are low-mess, and they are great for the fine motor skills, and this cute Halloween paper craft is no exception! My kids loved making their jumping jack witch and making her jump when they were done – I hope yours will too! Read on for the free pattern and instructions for this easy Halloween craft!

Materials for Jumping Jack Witch Halloween Paper Craft

All you need for making your jumping jack witch Halloween paper craft is a little paper and a few other common materials. You will need:

  • Black card stock (you can also use construction paper, but I do recommend card stock for this because it’s more sturdy).
  • Other colors of card stock or construction paper for the witch’s body, hair, and leggings. We used green for the witch’s face and hands, orange for her hair, and white for the leggings, but feel free to use whatever colors you prefer! I think purple would be a really cute color for the witch’s hair!
  • Brads – you will need four brads for each witch.
  • Glue stick or white glue.
  • Googly eyes – two for each witch
  • Scissors
  • Small hole punch (smaller than standard size) – this is optional, but makes things easier. You can also use a thick sewing needle, a craft knife, or scissors with a pointy tip will also work.
  • Colored markers (this is optional, but if you want to draw stripes on the witch’s leggings, you will want a marker in the color of your choice).
  • A strand of thin string – you will need about 18 inches.
  • A sewing needle with a large eye (the eye needs to be large enough for the string).
  • The Jumping Jack Witch Halloween Paper Craft Template (find the free PDF files at the end of the post!)

Instructions for Making Your Witch Halloween Paper Craft

Print out the Jumping Jack Witch templates on your paper of choice. You can find the free pdf patterns at the bottom of the post. Again, I recommend card stock – it works best for this craft because it’s more sturdy and durable. If you would prefer to use construction paper, you can print the templates onto regular printer paper and use the different pieces as patterns to trace onto the construction paper.

  • Cut out all the witch’s parts.
  • Draw stripes on your witch’s leggings if you would like. This is optional, but it adds some extra cuteness to this fun craft!
  • Time to get out your glue stick or white glue! I prefer a glue stick for this step because it is less messy.
  • Glue the witch’s shoes to her legs so that they just barely overlap on the bottom of her legs. The shoes go on the front.
  • Glue the head of the witch to the top of her body, just barely overlapping the top edge of her body.
  • Glue the witch’s hair to the underside of her hat. Be sure to position the hair so that it will frame the witch’s face.
  • If you do not want to make the witch into a jumping jack, you can put all the pieces together and make the witches into stationary Halloween decorations instead. If you need a really easy Halloween craft for young children, this is a good option. Making the witch into a jumping jack is not difficult at all, but it does require some dexterity, and an adult will probably need to assist young children with this part.
  • To make the witch into a jumping jack, you will need to now poke holes into the tops of the arms and legs, and in the body where the limbs would attach.
  • At the top of the arms and legs, you will need a little hole and a bigger hole underneath. I poked both holes with a craft punch, then made the bottom hole larger by twisting the tip of a pencil into it.
  • The holes in the body of the witch also need to be enlarged. The holes need to be large enough to let the brads turn easily so that the witch’s limbs can move freely.
  • Now it’s time to add the brads!
  • Place the brads through the holes in the witch’s body.
  • Put the witch’s arms and legs on the brads at the back of the witch’s body.
  • To keep the legs and arms moving freely, open the brads over a pair of scissors so the brads stay nice and loose.
Halloween craft for kids

If you want to skip the next step and stop here, you can! You now have a fun Halloween paper craft witch with moving arms and legs!

To make your Halloween craft even more fun, add a little string to make the witch’s arms and legs move!

How to Make the Jumping Jack Witch Halloween Paper Craft

The following steps are a little finicky and do require somewhat advanced fine motor skills, so be prepared to give a lot of assistance if you are doing this craft with young children.

  • First, thread your needle with the string.
  • With the needle, pull the string through the small hole at the top of each arm.
  • Make sure the witch’s arms are down, then pull the string taut and tie a knot.
  • Next, join the two sides of the string with another knot just above the tops of the witch’s legs.
  • Thread one side of the string through the top of one leg. Repeat on the other side.
  • Make sure the witch’s legs are down and bring the sides of the string together and tie a knot.
  • Tie one more knot around where the string hangs below the witch’s body.

Now your witch jumping jack is all done! Pull down on the string and her arms and legs should go up like she’s jumping.

Isn’t that fun?!

I hope you enjoyed this fun Halloween paper craft! Thanks for visiting! Happy Halloween!
