This is a simple and fun activity for learning the sound of ing that is especially great for the kids that love to move!
You Will Need:
- A Ring for throwing – I used a pool ring, but you could also use an embroidery hoop, or even make a ring out of cardboard.
- The ING Word Parts printable
- 6-9 Water Bottles – you could also use cups or anything you can throw a ring around.
- Tape
Instructions:
- Print and cut out the ING Word Parts.
- Tape the ing to the ring that you are using for the game.
- Set up the water bottles in rows or whatever configuration you would like. Place a word part under each bottle.
- Teach your child the ING sound while showing him the ING on the ring. ING is the ending sound of ring (the sound is a long e sound followed by n and g).
- Explain that he is going to make ing words by throwing the ring around the water bottles, like a carnival game. Once he gets the ring around a bottle he can pick it up to uncover the word part. He will place the word part in front of the ing on the ring to make a word so he can read it.
- If he reads all the words under the bottles, then you can replenish them and keep playing if your child wants to, or stop and practice some more another day.
