This activity is easy, quick, and fun!. My daughter had a blast spraying the words to make them appear.
Materials You Will Need:
- Ay Spray Words Printable
- Laminator and laminating sheets or a plastic page protector
- Spray bottle of water
- Paper towels
Instructions:
- Prepare for the activity by doing the following:
- Print and laminate the AY Spray Words printable, or put it in a plastic page protector
- Cover the Spray Words with a paper towel and have a spray bottle of water nearby
- Write the word spray on a dry erase board or piece of paper, or spell it out with a moveable alphabet
- Show the word to your child, point out the ay in spray, and tell her that you are going to learn the sound of AY.
- (Optional) Play the song Ai/Ay Hooray from the album Sounds Fun Phonics (you can find it on Spotify and possibly other streaming services)
- Teach the sound of AY to your child. AY make a long A sound (A says its name) like the sound at the end of the word spray. The video below can help you if you need it.
- Now the fun part!
- Instruct your child to spray the paper towel that is covering the AY words inside the boxes, one box at a time.. The black lines of the boxes on the AY Spray Words printable should be visible through the paper towel. Ask her to read the AY words as they appear. Remind her of the sound of AY as often as is needed, and instruct her to look for the AY in the word if she is having trouble.
- Once your child is finished or gets tired, you are all done!
