This vegetable matching game is a fun little printable matching game for toddlers. It is simple to prepare and easy for your toddler to play. It’s great for language development – your child can practice the names of veggies, colors, and placement words while playing this fun vegetable matching game. And your toddler can probably do it by himself, so you just might get a couple of minutes to get something done! This free printable matching game can also be a quiet activity for on the go. Just add a little velcro and it’s ready for the car, shopping cart, or anywhere you need to go! This vegetable matching game is appropriate for children about two and up, but some kids might be ready even earlier. Materials Needed to Make Your Vegetable Matching Game:
All you need to make your free printable matching game is:
- the Vegetable Matching Game printable
- white card stock to print it on (regular printer paper can work too, but cardstock is more durable)
- a color printer
- scissors or a paper cutter
- a laminator (this is optional, but I highly recommend it for durability!)
Instructions for Making the Matching Game:
- Print 2 copies of the Vegetable Matching Game printable
- Laminate both copies (optional)
- Cut out the vegetable squares on ONE sheet only. These will be your game cards. The other sheet will be your game board.
Time to Play!
- Lay out the board and cards and show them to your toddler. Hand him a card, the carrot for example, and ask him if he can find the carrot on the board. Ask him to put the carrot card on the other carrot. Guide him as much as he needs until he gets the idea. He’ll probably catch on pretty quickly, and be able to do the rest himself.
You can do this activity with your toddler as a bonding and learning activity, or let him enjoy it on his own while you work with your other children, or get something else done!
